chords.jpgSince I started playing guitar fifteen years ago I was always asked interesting questions. Most of these questions came from people who were trying to learn to play better or improve their ” toucher “. One of the most asked questions was which one to choose from “guitar tabs” or the actual “notes”. Here is an article about tabs and why the authıor thinks that they suck
A guitarists struggle to learn guitar tab…
My first adventure in to a song was Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. I went to the search engine and had no idea what a tab was or even how to begin searching for one.
Finally I began to put two and two together and found a version of Pink Floyd Wish You Were here from MXTabs.net way back before they got shut down =(
To make a long story short, I broke a sweat out of frustration in less than 5 minutes, put my guitar back in it’s case and went back to playing my video games. That was back then…
This is now…
Guitar tabs look like perfect english to me now, but at the time when I was starting out I could not make sense of anything. It looked like another foreign language to me! My friends laughed when they watched my fingers try to play a song in the most ridiculous way imaginable. I was just trying to do what the tab told me to do, but the tab did not tell me what finger position to play in, or if there were any helpful tricks to make it easier on my hands! I was getting tired of this dead end approach to improve my skills.
Here is my point: Guitar tab sucked then and it sucks now. I’m still waiting for the pioneer that fixes this problem for the masses…
What do you struggle with? Chances are it may be the motivation to keep playing. Because that is how it used to be for me!
Dane Maxwell & Paul Johnson produce guitar video tabs for popular songs and artists. Developed out of a need to help their students, the idea is still in its infancy and has yet to prove itself as a viable solution to guitar players around the world.
Tabs Cause Confusion.
Eliminate the guess work, welcome to the revolution of video tab.

knoxville.jpgLast night I watched a Johnny Knoxville movie! It was “The Ringer” which was shot in 2005. By the end of the first half I started asking myself why I was watching a movie derived from a South Park episode. Johhny’s charecter was a big hearted unselfish guy who was trying to help an immigrant. He needed money to help him and decided to rig the Special Olympics. Some parts of the dialogues were about dramatic issues. So I thought that making a comedy film with such an important subject blended witin a humor/ drama concept was a thing that Knoxville will not be able to overcome. But I guess I was wrong at some points. Maybe it was prejudice. But the world knew Knoxville with his sarcastic attitude in Jackass. And at some scenes I thought that it might be found offending for the disabled. But as a conclusion I can say that with its message of unconditional equality I found the movie rather warm. And of course another warm thing was Katherine Heigl in this movie!

Yesterday while we were driving circles around the topic of “time travel” on a mail discussion group we ended up with interesting questions marks. When it comes to unsolved mysteries of humankind I always come up with ideas like travelling in time, ufo’s and pyramids. On the mail discussion group I asked that if it will be possible to turn back the hands of time one day and feel the same way while we were back in high school. Many theories were created in the group and my favorite one was selch’s. He assumed that his daughter will be connecting a trasmitter to any! part of his body to download the whole data of his past to watch them in a lcd screen in her hands in the near future. He tried to proove his theory with a recent discovery regarding the cure of Alzheimer disease. A patient’s brain was electronically stimulated and she remembered and acted exactly like the way she did on that same day 30 years ago!
I asked some questions like “did you see older you while you were young?” and ” if it ever became possible it would have already happened!” also remained unanswered.
And all of that questions popped after viewing the adaptation of H.G.Well’s “The Time Machine” for the 40th time!
Got your own comments on the subject?

Today I received an email from a friend that was reffering to news from
Businessweek. Google, Yahoo and MySpace was joining forces to create web’s
largest Open Social Foundation. Maybe it is the last and best way to deal
with Facebook.

On March 25, Yahoo, the largest online destination, teamed up with two
other Web titans—search goliath Google and leading social network
MySpace—to form the OpenSocial Foundation. The not-for-profit, which is
scheduled to launch within the next 90 days, is dedicated to preserving
open source programming codes that allow Web developers to build
applications that work across all major Web sites. “We believe common sets
of specifications are beneficial to the developer community at large and
enrich the experience of the Web both on and off Yahoo,” said Wade
Chambers, Yahoo’s VP of Platforms, in a media conference call.

Google launched the OpenSocial platform in October in hopes of solving two
problems created by the increasingly social Web. The first issue concerned
developers. Facebook’s May decision to open up its popular real estate to
applications from third parties spurred thousands of developers to create
programs for the social networking site. The enthusiastic response of
Facebook users to the new programs encouraged other social networks to
follow suit. Soon most sites were allowing outsiders to create programs for
them.

All the opening up, however, presented developers with a dilemma: who to
program for? Most social networks had unique codes that demanded developers
build programs specifically to work on their site. Most development teams,
however, had staffs composed of only a handful of programmers capable of
creating just a few such specific applications at a time.

If developers didn’t make their programs work across sites, they risked
losing out on valuable audiences who might use their program only if they
could get it to work on their favorite Web destination. Worse, developers
risked their program failing to get virally distribution because a user’s
friends were not all on the same site.

The developers’ dilemma presented a problem for Web site owners as well. If
developers had to choose one or two sites to program for, and your site
wasn’t on the short list, you could miss out on the hot new program. Web
surfers wanting to use a particular widget—such as Slide’s popular photo
sharing widget or iLike’s music sharing and discovery service—would
potentially ignore your site if that particular application wasn’t
available.

Many sites, including Google, found themselves quickly faced with the
flipside of the developers’ dilemma. Facebook was already on most
developers’ short lists, thanks to the early release of its APIs and its
global audience, which now reaches more than 70 million people. Without
common codes, MySpace, Yahoo, Google’s Orkut social network, AOL, and
myriad other sites would find themselves competing for the remaining slots
on individual developers’ lists.

It’s no wonder then that Google, whose own Orkut social network lagged
behind MySpace and Facebook in the US, chose to create a common set of
codes for developers. It’s also no wonder why MySpace, which opened up
comparatively late, quickly signed on.

Despite already being the most popular site on the Web, Yahoo has a lot to
gain by joining. The company suffers from a lack of innovation. Several of
its social properties, such as Yahoo 360, have failed to take off.
Moreover, it has lost some mindshare among young people—those most likely
to pass around many developers’ applications — to hotter social networking
properties. By joining OpenSocial Yahoo ensures it doesn’t miss out on some
developers’ next great creation. It also gets an opportunity to increase
adoption of its own properties such as photo-sharing site Flickr by
enabling developers to more easily create programs that spread Yahoo’s
offerings onto other popular sites.

Getting on the OpenSocial bandwagon now is particularly important because
of where the Web is going. Joe Kraus, Google’s director of product
management, sees a future where social applications will live on nearly
every site and audiences will take their favorite programs and content
wherever they wish. In that world, making sure your content is easily
distributable and that your site can support a variety of different
programs is key.

Moreover, cute little widgets are quickly evolving into full-fledged
programs. It may not seem so bad if your site doesn’t support an
application allowing people to turn each other into vampires. But it could
be terrible, say, if everyone began using a widget notifying them of
important business emails and they couldn’t see alerts when on your site.
“In the future we see applications for OpenSocial and the MySpace developer
platform moving beyond toys and widgets and becoming real features,” said
Steve Pearman, MySpace’s SVP of Product Strategy.

OpenSocial is far from perfect. Developers often still have a lot of work
to do to customize their applications so they truly work across all the
sites that have signed up. Also, like any open source standard, there is
some worry that competing developers will be able to easily copy existing
applications built upon the APIs.
The other problem with OpenSocial is that it is still far from
comprehensive. Microsoft has, notably, not signed on. But, even Yahoo says
it would welcome the tech giant’s friendship in this respect. “I think any
large platform should be able to participate and we would welcome anyone to
participate,” said Chambers.

One of the hottest things for 2008 was announced as “Google Sites” project . Wiki Company JotSpot was bought by Google and Scott Johnson ; a former for that wiki company made a presentation which revealed some of the secrets of “Google Sites”. Google Sites project based by JotSpot will replace Google Page Creator.
Here is a summary of the presentation of Google Sites Project Qs&As :
Google Sites:
Scheduled to be launched sometime next year (2008), Google Sites will expand upon the Google Page Creator already offered within Apps. Based on JotSpot collaboration tools, Sites will allow business to set up intranets, project management tracking, customer extranets, and any number of custom sites based on multi-user collaboration. I don’t recall wikis being mentioned specifically but I assume they are part of the plan.
Will users be able to edit docs, spreadsheets and presentation offline? Scott’s answer was yes, and that the Google Gears plugin would handle the offline work. In addition, Google Gears support is in the works for Gmail and Google Calendar.
What happens when somebody edits a document offline at the same time another user is editing the online version? The same algorithm that reconciles simultaneous editing will apply here when the offline version is merged back into the online version. Changes will be versioned the same way, so basically in chronological order.
Will Google docs have OCR capabilities for importing .pdfs or other graphical files? Not yet, but perhaps someday. Scott couldn’t comment on the “roadmap” for future enhancements. However, the collaborative Google Sites (based on JotSpot) will allow for upload and storage of any file type.
google.jpg
Will GrandCentral be integrated into Google Apps? If so, when? Again, Scott didn’t comment on the timing but said they are working on it and it is a “huge priority” for them.
Will Google Spreadsheets ever have advanced features like pivot tables, macros or offline database integrations? (This was actually my question) Scott said they are constantly trying to find the balance between speed and utility. It will never be a heavy duty analytics program because that would be too heavy and bulky for the average user.
Will Google Apps support video conferencing in addition to Google Talk and Chat? Scott’s answer, “Not yet”. I got the impression from his body language that it’ll come someday, but nothing more was said.

Here is a very useful tool , a plug-in for your website. This plug-in redirects all of your old links with the new links of your site. Your website content directing the visitors between different pages of your site which are indexed by search engines will not automatically replace when you update your site.  You have to use an external corrector. From now on you will not loose no more visitors coming from various search engines!

lost.jpgBeing a fan of ABC’s Lost myself, after watching a few episodes from the fourth season I started to think that the new episodes were shot in commerical worries. For the first three seasons scripts were really outstanding so that we did not even notice the solid commercial value of Lost. But with more complex titles and too much of flash forwards series started to bore me.
The rumors of its demise sadly over-calculated, LOST has settled into ratings numbers that secures it in the company of the best dramas on television. Had LOST managed to hold onto the 23million-plus it had in the beginning of its second series, I doubt ABC would be able to afford to produce it at this point. Any clue on what Matt Fox might demand for his LOST paycheck knowing the largest television audience in history was tuning in?
The fact of the matter is, LOST set records: Most Emmy nominations for a new series, and wins to boot; Most viewers for second season premiere; and, of course, one of the best cliff hangers in television history “What is in the hatch?”
Aside from all of this, the show has literally reinvented the internet fan community on such a scale that some sites, TheTailsection and LostPedia, found themselves featured players in the Alternate Reality Game ‘The Lost Experience’ that was released to ease the game between season two and three.
The fact that the doomsayers have started to come out of the journalistic woodwork with tails of faltering numbers and disenchanted fans is nothing short of proof that malcontentism is alive and well.
With its incongruity of surreptitious plot twists and startling, sometimes jarring, changes of locale, the show has shown no sign of slowing down from its unique approach of “leave continuity behind” writing, which for this author is perfectly okay. I’d love nothing more than to see LOST evade resolution for another ten seasons, if they could do it effectively, but, alas, that is not the goal of the men and women behind LOST; they claim to have planned a beginning, middle, and end, that will span four-to-five seasons at best. With that assurance, the criticism that LOST is a train with no rail is nonsense. Despite bold attempts to explain LOST (‘Lost for newbies’ for instance.), however, that end seems no-more closer than it did two weeks ago when we all watched a prone man, bloodied and disoriented, open a green eye onto an island of mystery for the first time.
So, if you want to find out more about Lost or even about Lost for newbies we recommend you clicking this link http://www.buddytv.com

ipod.jpgTechincal capacity of Japanase developers are prooving that the sky is the limit for technology. On March 3rd, 2008 Kazuhiro Taniguchi from University of Osaka showed prototype devices at his labarotory in western Japan Osaka closing both eyes for one second starts the ipod and blinking again stops the player. A wink with the right eye makes the player skip a song and a wink of the left eye goes one track back!
